Lockdown hasn’t been fun for anyone who loves fashion and make-up. Boutiques have been closed. Click and collect has been possible but there’s nothing better than touching and feeling the fabrics in my opinion – plus nobody is going anywhere to wear them! I really feel for boutique owners, they must have taken a real financial hit. If retailers such as Topshop, Debenhams and the like are closing, then what hope is there for the sole traders? Buying clothes and accessories online, for me, can be a little soulless. I hope things get back on track soon.
I’ll park the negativity for a moment though. If there’s one thing that can perk any women up, then it’s a new lipstick. It can completely transform your face. Just like a set of eyebrows. It can define you. Even when I’m out for our statutory daily walk, I’ll try and pop on a slick of mascara and lippie to make me feel human!
As we’ve had to tighten our monetary belts during all of this, I was delighted to see that Tesco had an offer on their L’Oréal products. I was able to buy two lippies for £12.99. That’s an absolute steal considering they normally retail at £8.99 each! Every Little Helps!
I’m always careful to check ingredients for any product that is going anywhere near my skin, but this lippie is fine for me. When I could afford to be a bit more flush, my go to lippie was always Lancôme Rouge in Love but, hey ho, I’ve had to cut my cloth. I was thinking I might be disappointed if I temporarily switched to a cheaper brand but, thankfully, that hasn’t been the case.
For that price I opted for two different colours: Only in Paris and Insanesation. The shade Only in Paris is a perfect light pink that is subtle enough to wear to work or with smoky eyes. Insanesation has a deeper pink so with a bit more oomph.
What I loved
I loved the feel of these lip products and this won me over on consistency alone. The colours are definitely on the sheer side, so if you are looking at the colours, don’t be afraid of the dark tones.
Okay, given the price, it didn’t last as long as my usual Lancôme lippie and it moved about a bit when I rubbed my lips together but on the plus side, the formula was really creamy, so if you have chapped or dry lips, then this product is definitely one for you. I suppose you could say it’s more like a balm with colour and that’s fine with me as, as a woman of a certain age, I find the matte, dry formulas a bit ageing. Maybe that’s just me.
I would recommend (especially to those with dry lips) because I do like the formula and for the price it is a fab product to have if you are into makeup. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another shade of this product to try out.
The texture is creamy and applies smoothly, leaving lips feeling moisturised and glossy. The lightest swipe gives lips a full colour that lasts well considering it is a glossy lipstick. The packaging is so pretty and luxe and one you will want in your handbag. I am so pleased to have found my new favourite lipsticks!
