Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Is In Town, But What To Wear?

Am I too old to be a Swifty? That's right, we're never too old to be a Swifty.

What do you do when Taylor Swift comes to town with her Eras tour? Well, you don your best sequins, feather boa and cowboy boots and hat, and hit the Gaucho Restaurant for a pre-show brunch, with Swifty ambience and Swift-like entertainment.

My client and good friend Nicola of Nicola Venetia Steele boutique in Bridgend accepted my invitation of a co-swiftee (Mark, could have come as he’s comfortable with his feminine side) but I thought Nicola would enjoy the glitz and glam more!

Bedecked in our aforementioned sequins, we met in town and stopped by one of the many merch vendors for the obligatory feather boas and Stetsons before making our way to Gaucho. I’m not sure the cleaning staff would be happy with us as we left most of our feathers behind us on the seats. I don’t think the boas would pass any quality control regulations, but it was all in good fun!

The food, as ever in Gaucho was top notch. It included Miss Swift’s favourites of buttermilk fried chicken tenders and free-flowing drinks, from a Midnight Martini to a Cruel Summer Cosmo.

Our lovely server Julia showed us to our table and left us with some menus to browse over. We had some delicious Sourdough baguettini, pan de bono, chimichurri with butter to start, which was as delicious as it sounded. As Nicolas doesn’t eat meat, she opted for the cherry tomato jam, smashed avocado, toasted sourdough burrata to start, the Spaghetti Romesco Superstraccia, confit cherry tomatoes and basil for main and the chocolate brownie with white chocolate ice cream for dessert. Each dish looked beautifully presented and Nicola said she thoroughly enjoyed each one. As I follow a specific diet, I ordered a steak with no frills, which was cooked to perfection – blue – just as I like it!

We both enjoyed a Midnight Martini – Grey Goose vodka, Passoa, Passion Fruit, Pineapple and Vanilla with our meal (ok, as I wasn’t driving, I had two!) and these were so good.

The vibe in Gaucho is what I for one enjoy coming here for. It’s not my first rodeo here and I last visited with Mark, we commented that Gaucho feels grown up. It’s understated, sultry interior oozes moodiness and my opinion of it is still the same. You could come here as a couple for a romantic date night or, as Nicola and I did, a girlie catch up and still enjoy the surroundings.

When the food was done, we spied the lady from Blue Lagoon Bio Glitter and Facepaint Bar setting up for the promised glitter face painting and nothing could stop us from partaking! Nicola was up first and opted for a colourful creation and I went for a silver and black snakelike theme – very Charlize Theron in the Dior J’Adore perfume ad (ok, so who am I kidding but leave me be with my delusions!).

Reluctant to leave the table (and that’s always a good sign), we made our way downstairs and enjoyed a coffee at the bar. We had a lot to catch up on.

We will definitely go back to Gaucho, it was so good. And perhaps we won’t wait for another celeb to tour before we do!
