How to Wear a GeoCUBE: Styling COEUR DE LION’s Colourful Classic! Most of us have a drawer of jewellery bought for one outfit and never worn again. COEUR DE LION’s GeoCUBE pieces tend to go the other way. Owners talk about wearing them for years, and then quietly buying more.

The Stuttgart brand’s signature design, first presented in 1999 and inspired by the geometry of the Bauhaus, arranges small cubes of natural stone, crystal, pearl and stainless steel into bold blocks of colour. It is striking. It is also, as it turns out, far easier to wear than it looks.

We’ve reviewed the brand in full over on Gifted. Here we’re asking a simpler question. Once you have one, what do you wear it with?

Start with your wardrobe, not the necklace
New colourways arrive every season, so there is plenty of choice. The trick is to pick from the colours you already wear rather than falling for the brightest one on screen.

If your wardrobe leans towards navy, grey and white, the jewel-like blues and greens will lift it without clashing. Camel, olive and cream suit the earthier natural stone versions, particularly those set with gold tone stainless steel. And if you live in black, almost anything works, which is either very convenient or very dangerous.

Give it room
A GeoCUBE necklace looks its best with a clean frame around it. Crew necks, simple round-neck knits and open collars all work well. Busy prints and fussy necklines compete with it, and the necklace usually loses.

Think of it the way you would a good silk scarf. It is the focal point, so keep everything else calm.

One piece or the full set?
Many collections include matching bracelets and earrings, which raises the eternal question. For daytime, a single necklace is the more understated choice. For evenings and occasions, the full matching set comes into its own.

Mixing colourways from different collections takes a little more confidence, but it can look terrific, especially when the pieces share the same metal tone.

From weekend to dinner
Versatility comes up again and again in customer reviews. One owner says her pieces can be dressed up or down and make an outfit feel special without overpowering it.

In practice, a GeoCUBE with a white shirt and jeans is a weekend look. Wear the same necklace with a plain black dress and you’re ready for dinner. No change required, which is rather the point.

Does age matter?
Not in the slightest, as far as we can tell. Among the reviewers are women who bought their first piece a decade ago and are still adding to their collections, and one who now buys pieces for her older grandchildren. The clean geometry keeps it grown up, and the colour keeps it fun.

Keeping it looking its best
This is designer jewellery, and it likes to be treated as such. COEUR DE LION says water, sweat, perfume, creams and hairspray can all dull the surfaces and brilliance over time. In practice that means:
* Take it off before showering, swimming, exercising or using a sauna
* Put on perfume, hairspray and creams first, and your jewellery last
* Avoid prolonged contact with water

The brand also runs a repair service, and purchases come with a two year statutory guarantee.
