Christmas has been quite different for most of us. We’ve been in and out of lockdown for the last nine months and now, as I write this, we’re in a major tier four lockdown, so we’re still not able to do the things we love, which is publishing, and things are quite depressing.

One glimmer of happiness, for me at least, is the arrival of my gorgeous new chair and pouffe. If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll have read that I have moved my office space into the unused space under the stairs (see more about this here). This I knew would then leave a space in my lounge which needed to be filled. I’d always fancied an oversized chair and pouffe just to curl up in and read a book.

We have worked with the fabulous Jack & Rose before. They make bespoke furniture and are based in Bridgend. They made our sofas, and we love them. We are lucky that Mark and I have our own lounges (it helps keep us sane as we have different tastes in what we like to watch on TV). Both of our lounges are quite big, so we needed big sofas to fill them. That’s where Jack & Rose come in. You can send them a pic of what you like, whether you’ve seen it in a magazine or online, and the sizes you want, and they’ll make it for you. Incredible!

I ordered my chair and pouffe before Covid-19 and with the several lockdowns, it’s taken this long for it to be delivered. Not Jack & Rose’s fault. They were keen to deliver but restrictions made it impossible.

Back to the chair. I saw this retro oversized style in a magazine and then hunted it down online and sent David (the owner) the pic via email. This, plus a few tweaks of my own, meant I had exactly what I wanted. He sourced the material and got to work. When it was finally delivered, it was love at first sight, it was the right pattern, the perfect size, and the shape; it was exactly what I had hoped for.

The positioning in the room is just right too. It’s right opposite my large sofa, so perfect for conversation for whenever we are allowed visitors, it’s facing the log burner but side on to the TV, so I’m not distracted by the screen.

I can’t tell you how much I love my new chair. It could fit two small people it’s so big. I’m snuggling up in it now with my latest book. I’m like the cat who got the cream!

Jack & Rose are moving into new larger premises shortly. I can’t wait to pay them a visit.
