I Love Jo Loves Candles

Anyone who knows me, will know that I love a good, scented candle. I’m not a fan of the big, mass-produced brands though. It goes without saying that you get what you pay for, and this is certainly the case with candles. Who wants a room filled with that sickly, paraffin, chemical smell? Not me. So, although as I’m looking at my newly acquired candle from Jo Loves literally burning money, what I get in return makes the spend worthwhile.

The candle in I’m talking about here is Jo Loves, Christmas Trees (perfect for the run up to the festivities). Especially with everything going on with Covid and the impending darker evenings and longer nights, the sight and smell of a candle lifts my spirits and is the perfect antidote to the winter blues.

Let’s talk first about the packaging. It’s nothing short of luxurious. The box is white and expensive looking, adorned with a gorgeous red ribbon which was tied in a bow. The candle was nestled in white tissue paper and comes with a glass and silver lid for safekeeping. Yes, the beautiful packaging was probably a big factor in the price tag of the candle, but I think this is justified.

Now to the scent. The website says it has notes of fresh pine and florals which includes amber, incense and lavender. Inspired by a sensual blend of decorative tees, warming winter spices and soothing beverages and it certainly lived up to this description.

It took a while to get going but once it did, the scent was strong enough the permeate the whole room (and I’m lucky enough to have a large lounge). I first lit it in my little office under the stairs which can be found by opening a door from the lounge. Think Narnia! After a while, the scent was a little strong as it’s a tiny room, so I transferred it into the lounge and that was much better. The scent lasted quite a long time after I blew it out as well.

I’m pleased to see that the candles are made in England (hand-poured), which is a huge factor for me as I would rather support our home-grown manufacturing industry.

The burn time of the candle is approximately 40 hours. I used mine for about three hours and it hardly made a dent in the wax so that looks promising.

I loved the scent of the Christmas Trees candle. It did remind me of Christmas and I’m now keen to try the other scents.

Great gift idea
This candle would definitely make a gorgeous Christmas present for someone you love (and maybe add in a sneaky order for yourself too!)

In the meantime, I might order one of Jo Loves home fragrance diffusers. I’ve never been a huge diffuser buyer, mainly sticking to candles, but hey you’re never too old to try something new!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the owner of Jo Loves – Jo Malone CBE, here’s some background to this very entrepreneurial woman.

Jo’s Background
Jo Malone CBE has been described as an ‘English scent maverick’ and the woman responsible for creating some of the world’s most loved fragrances.

Originally a facial therapist, Jo fell in love with fragrance while working from her discreet skin care clinic which she set up from her London home. Discovering an instinctual talent for creating scented products by hand in her kitchen, word of her exceptional potions quickly spread and soon Jo was unable to keep up with demand. From these artisan beginnings Jo launched her first brand, Jo Malone London, which gained cult status around the world. In 1999, Jo sold the business to Estée Lauder Companies and remained Creative Director until she left in 2006.

Inspired by memories
Jo’s passion for fragrance never ceased and when the time was right, she began working on a secret project behind the scenes.

After much anticipation, Jo revealed that project to be Jo Loves – an innovative new scent, bath, body and candle collection inspired by the memories and moments in life that she loves.

Jo Loves bottles
Jo’s undeniable desire to create beautiful and unexpected fragrances, pioneering new products and entertaining experiences.

Jo’s creative seal of integrity, symbolised by the red dot, is stamped across everything that bears the Jo Loves name.

Jo’s autobiography
Jo’s autobiography ‘My Story’ tells her remarkable full-life story – from modest beginnings struggling with dyslexia and leaving school without qualifications, to turning her fortunes around to become one of the world’s most successful businesswomen.
