When I told some friends I was headed to Newport for the weekend, their reaction was, well, let’s just say I couldn’t really type it here. One of the most printable phrases was “What a dump!” And that might have been true a decade ago. It would have been hard to argue against that opinion. Not so now. Newport is enjoying something of a comeback.

The amazing Newport Transporter Bridge

I won’t ramble on here. You can read Mark’s take on our stay by clicking here. What I will say is that everyone, and I mean everyone, in Newport was nothing but helpful and polite. Even a slightly tipsy chap, living on the street, was one of the most charming and kindest people we’d met and walked with us to help us locate the hotel.

It has to be noted that we engage with a lot of Council employees around the UK and, with utmost honesty, can say none of them have come close to Newport. The Newport team couldn’t be more helpful.

If you judge a town or city by the people, then Newport is way up there for us. They were just brilliant.

Perhaps, as they say, it’s a Newport State Of Mind.

There’s lots to love about Wales…
