Honest Beauty Summer Review

As a woman of a certain age, my skin needs looking after. Lack of oestrogen has caused it to be dry, wrinkly, and sagging. Next time I’m coming back as a man! Hopefully HRTt will help but I also need to show it some love with my skincare regime. I’m a big fan of Honest Beauty products and have been using their eyeshadow kit for a while now. Their products are natural, organic, non-toxic ingredients that are ethically sourced and, most importantly, actually work. Anything that’s good for you and good for the planet has to be good, right? Also, they are vegan, and dermatologist approved so you can’t go wrong.

I was browsing through skincare products on the website (www.honest.com) and couldn’t help popping a few items in the cart. Here are the ones I chose and have been using for about a fortnight.

Calm on Foaming Cream Cleanser £20
The Calm on Foaming Cream Cleanser is the perfect cleanser for leaving cleansed skin feeling hydrated, not dry. It is great for all skin types, but I would especially recommend it for patients with sensitive skin, since washing with regular soap or a harsh cleanser can lead to further irritation or a damaged skin barrier. This creamy foaming cleanser gently removes makeup and impurities without stripping the skin thanks to its unique lipid reinforcing ‘Phyto-Blend’ that’s supercharged charged with Hyaluronic Acid to draw moisture into the skin from its environment, while amino acids work to support and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier. Arginine specifically is an amino acid that bolsters your natural proteins – helping to reverse the look of skin damage for a complexion that feels balanced and hydrated. 100% of women agree the cleanser left their skin feeling soft and smooth. Vegan, fragrance-free and suitable for daily use.

Ingredients
Water (Aqua/Eau), Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Isoamyl Laurate, Propanediol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sodium Chloride, Phytosterols, Phospholipids, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Sodium PCA, Arginine, Glutamic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Hydroxyacetophenone, Linoleic Acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Citric Acid.

Directions
Rub a small amount between hands with water to create a gentle foam. Massage into damp skin, rinse and pat dry. Use morning and night.

Did I like it?
The cream cleanses smoothly and doesn’t feel harsh or abrasive. The consistency is very light and, once applied it thins out over the applied areas, a small amount is sufficient enough to get working on your skin. Overall, this is a good cleanser from a well-known brand that helps clean the face and remove make-up, dirt, and grime after a long day. A small amount goes along way and it feels exactly right on the skin. So far, I like it, but time will tell on its effectiveness.

As many reviews I’ve found have said though, the smell is not the best. If you can get passed this, then you’ll be pleased with this product.

Honest Beauty Calm & Porefect Serum, £35
The Calm and POREFect Serum helps give sensitive skin texture-refining and pore minimising benefits without irritation. I love that it contains niacinamide, a natural anti-inflammatory that is great for sensitive skin and can help strengthen the skin barrier and even out skintone. This gently exfoliating, pore-refining serum improves tone, texture, and radiance. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, Niacinamide, a marine-derived Amino Acid and Honest Beauty’s unique Calming Phyto-Blend, skin is left feeling supple and supremely hydrated. 94% of women agreed Calm & Porefect soothed/calmed their sensitive skin. A dermatologist approved, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free. Alcohol-free fragrance and essential oil-free.

Did I like it?
I love that it comes in a glass bottle. It’s quite heavy and it gives this product the feeling of a much more expensive quality skincare product. It comes with a dropper and the serum itself is a cloudy, almost milky, liquid with no perceptible scent. It is on the expensive side for what it is, but two drops will cover my whole face after washing and while still damp. I found that I needed to have a bit of dampness to my skin to lock in the ingredients and then use the moisturiser to keep the goodness locked in.

It is hypoallergenic and has even been recognized by the National Eczema Association, and is also free of parabens, phthalates, and artificial dyes and fragrances. And, of course, it is also vegan and cruelty-free, which ALL skincare products ought to be by now.

Did I like it?
Finding a good, reasonably priced, moisturiser with no nasty ingredients is a tough call but I was pleased with this one. It does everything it says. It is lightweight and calming. I don’t like anything to heavy on my skin, so this fits the bill. It does help with any redness and doesn’t cause irritation. It sinks in well and doesn’t leave my skin shiny or oily. I’ve yet to notice if it helps with fine lines yet but I suppose it is early days yet.

Did I like it?

The great thing about this mist is that you can spray this on top of your makeup as well. The spray is very lightweight and really just feels like – well – a mist! It doesn’t really have much of a scent. If your skin is prone to feeling tight throughout the day or night, then a few sprays of this will renew your makeup and make your skin feel hydrated.
